The Brutal silence.

It hurts me to even think about the pain the girl, a girl just like me, a girl just like any of us, went through only to succumb to death. And I cannot forget the terror she must have gone through for hours. I cannot even imagine the helplessness she must have felt. It aches my heart. I feel physical pain just thinking about it. And more than all of it, I cannot imagine the mindset of the people who are trying to cover this up. Every official who tried to protect the real culprits is terrifying to even live in this world as a woman.

I still remember the shock I had from the incidents I have faced in my life. From the guy who grabbed me inappropriately on the bus when I was 9 years old, to the guy who flashed his private parts while I was watering my garden when I was 13, to the guy who grabbed my back while I was stepping out of a theater after a late show... To every other guy who made me feel like I was in hell, to every eye that followed and scared me.

And when I can't even forget such incidents yet, how can this girl, any girl who had to go through it, whether she survived or not, face those moments? And how do the ones who survived live with that memory? It just breaks my heart. And even more unacceptable is how the world responds to this. I hardly saw any news about this in the last three days. I hardly saw any posts about this except for the doctors protesting. The media is only interested if it involves a religious plot or a famous person, or something that have a news value according to their standards.

I don't understand why a woman, any women, getting raped is not news. Why is there no agitation? Is the intensity determined by the profession of the victim, the religion of the victim, or the culprit? Why is this not even a  news? I saw no one but the medical fraternity raising their voice against this. For whom are these doctors working relentlessly? Is it worth saving lives of the public who don't have the responsibility to at least raise their voice against a brutal, horrific rape?

"It's not just about a doctor being raped in a hospital; it's not just about the safety of a doctor during night duty. It's not about day or night, it's not about a woman in religion X getting raped by a guy in religion Y, nor is it about a girl wearing a white coat or shorts. It's about any girl in this country - whether she's a doctor, engineer, farmer, sweeper, or actress. It's about any woman, in any religion, in any proffesion, in any state with any political party ruling, in any dress she chooses to wear, at any time of day or night. It's not about anyone's personal interest, it's not about the TRP rating.

A WOMAN IS RAPED ! Is important and brutal enough to for this nation to raise its voice, it should be! without judging the victim by her name, profession, religion, politics, state, time of the day or length of the dress. it's about the basic right of every woman in this country to live without fear, under any circumstances, anywhere, and at any time. It's about the fundamental human right to live without fear.
It's  about the pathetic state of our country, the incompetency of our judicial system, and the cruelty of a world that has remained silent in the face of injustice for far too long."

In these situations, the rapist is not the only villain; those who question the victim are equally culpable. Why was she out at night? Why was she with someone else? Why did she wear shorts or a tight dress? Why was she alone in a seminar room? The truth is, it's all of us who failed to take action or speak out against injustice that share the blame. Its everyone who slept without even feeling that pain, without empathy, everyone who closed eyes towards every such incident, who share the blame.

Why is this society this way? How can anyone who tried to cover up this sleep, eat, or even be alive? And there is no discussion about the one who did this. They are worthless to even be a topic of discussion.
